Last night I dreamed of Heaven

Our daughter Tobey has wanted to learn to play the violin for at least a year now.  A few months back, Grandpa bought her a violin and offered to pay for the first month’s lessons.  Then to find a teacher.  Well, we asked around, but couldn’t find anyone.  Then Grandpa saved the day again and found a teacher.  So last month, the lessons began.  There have been 5 lessons now.

If I could have found a way to miss the first lesson, I would have.  But I couldn’t.  I am so glad I was there.  She just glowed!  And she is doing very well.  So well in fact, that I caught the bug, and want to learn with her.  I went on eBay and found a violin and have been trying to catch up.   Neither of us is good enough for us to be able to play together, but last night we finally practiced at the same time.  She would do a drill and then I would.  We really had fun together (but Ruby – our two-year old – made sure to tell me that I was making awful noise)

🙂

Anyhow, this probably contributed to my dream last night.  That and the book I read earlier about Heaven.  You see, Heaven is a real place, and I am really going there!  And final Heaven is really the resurrection when we will be on the new Earth with our new bodies.  We will really do stuff.  We will have responsibilities and projects.

Last night I dreamed I was resurrected on the new Earth and had my assignment.

I was to build the perfect violin with my own hands from scratch.  I was to grow the trees, cut the wood, cure it, and build the case, neck, body, etc.  I was to mine the ore for making the strings.

I was to write a beautiful song, and learn to play it flawlessly on this violin.

All to perform it for my King.  This was going to take lots of time, and require lots of learning.  But I had time.  All the time in the world.  I started by planting seeds.  Tobey was with me.  We were going to do it together.  I was so excited!

I hated waking up.

I wonder what it will really be like?

But in the meantime, I must put the time into crafting Tobey. . .

  3. That is really cool…I would love to have a dream like that. I don’t know about you, but I could never have thought that up. I think I wouldn’t mind learning how to play the chello (not sure if that is how you spell it).

  4. Lance,
Sometimes my mind puts things together in dreams that I wouldn’t have put together when awake. I have been pondering lately what we will actually do in Heaven. We will be busy, but doing what? Those sort of questions. So it is possible that this was just those questions coupled with practicing just before bed. But I would like to hope that it was some sort of picture of what God has for me on the new Earth. If you haven’t read Randy Alcorn’s book Heaven, I highly recommend it. It has been a total game changer for me.
Hey, thanks for stopping by, by the way. Sure like the pictures on your site. Almost make me think that there may be snow in Heaven after all. Almost . . .

  5. I started that book last year, but got busy and never went back to it. I will try to pick it up again…
I haven’t been good at following you, because I always go to Terah’s blog to find the updated blogs, and your’s isn’t on hers, but I will try to keep up – I am always encouraged!

  6. Thanks for the kind words Lance. I have been encouraged by your thoughts as well. Was praying for your Peru trip your shoulder and lately about the stress at work (something I understand). If you want updates when I post I think the “subscribe” option on the sidebar would send an e-mail automatically. I don’t post that often or with any schedule so they are easy to miss.
    Again Thanks,
    Craig
